Supertramp Take The Long Way Home Lyrics

He has found that taking the long way home from whatever it is that he spends his day doing does give him some surcease from sorrow, when he can day dream, imagine he is living the life he had planned. And it delays finally arriving at home where facing his wife will destroy that fantasy. That song would have amounted to a bubblegum smacking transistor radio sing along if not for the harmonica playing of Rick Davis and all those other quiet geniuses happy to be buried silent in the group. I can absolutely understand why he turned down the 5 mil offer. Putting the song in a commercial would greatly cheapen the song and it's message, which is loved by millions of people around the world. It would be like hanging the Mona Lisa in a used car salesman's office.

However he realizes his prime is gone he's old news. Alx, I always took the "part of the furniture," line as a reference to the decline of the relationship. My guess is that she's tired of him and is sleeping around with someone else hence why she just ignores him.

General CommentIt is really a great sad song of life. To understand this song just substitude Long with Wrong. Take the long way home is realy take the wrong way home. He married the wrong woman when everyone is telling him he is joke because she is just using him. As he grows he realized she does not love him anymore so he takes a trip to the city lights to get away. He sees himself stuck and can't change things.

Outside of that arena he has to deal with the realities of home life and his harshest critics. Too long being in one place doing the same thing for years makes one wonder if you could have been someone other than yourself - a much better you. This implies that our hero avoids getting home because when he's on the road he has a few more moments of being alone with his dreams, and in his dreams he's a superstar. He wants to go back to the days he had fun with her and how she adored him and made love to him. Home is what the wife make for you. The moral of the story here is if you are shallow in seeking love and physical satisfaction, don't blame anyone but yourself. Life and love are very deep and it is important to have depth in a realationship.

Has anybody ever considered the possibilty that the song is about the effects of living life on a stage? The pressures to constantly be "ON", and very rarely having the chance to be something else? So many artists find themselves stuck in the rut of constantly cranking out the same thing time after time, never allowed to be something else. This song reminds of me of grown-up people I know who have been mild drug users all their lives, you know, true rock 'n' rollers, and well, by staying youthful, never really became anything more than mediocre. Yet there is something to be said for taking the long way home, you get to see a lot more along the road, and it's always interesting.

Let’s Take The Long Way Home Lyrics – Johnny Horton – JioSaavn

I'm so very glad that the band didn't sell out and let Greyhound use this song for their commercials. This album is one of my all-time favorites. It's about someone who has success, but hasn't really acheived anything. As he's driving home from work, he literally takes the long way home and sees some of the things that he could have been if he hadn't sold out for money or power or whatever. Really don't like this song or the entire album. They did much better in previous albums.

Not having any real answers to his problem he gets to enjoy their moment together - in the now. Making the day go on longer, by taking the long way home. To grow, they have to realize there is more to life than just work. Although marvelously well written the lyrics of this song is somewhat depressing and it's a step away for an ordinary middle aged dude to commit suicide.

Which Mary Chapin Carpenter song talks about Accidents and inspiration?

Makes me think of something that is so sad that you can't put it into words. This song takes me back to when I was young and free and had none of the responsibilities or regrets of what is now my middle age. As a single person, I can relate to the lyrics, "When the time comes to settle down, who's to blame if you're not around." 'Take The Long Way Home' has a quality about it that just makes me feel warm inside. I don't know if it's the harmonies or the melodies, or whatever, but I never get sick of it.

So we don’t have to take the long way, struggle for attention, success, recognition, home. Who wrote the Supertramp song Take The Long Way Home? The song "Take The Long Way Home" by Supertramp has been played nationwide on almost every classic rock station. The song was written by Rick Davies and roger Hodgson. General CommentI agree with everything mrjobu said except for what the line "Take the long way home" means. I think this literally means take the long way home.

I always saw the song a little ambiguous. I see 'home' as being internal and external. Definitely part of the song is about the shallowness of success and getting caught up in a world and success and chasing, being popular, or whatever, is taking 'the long way home'. Because I think 'home' in its deepest sense is inside, is being at peace with oneself.

His wife thinks he's 'part of the furniture' - but 'she used to be so nice'. Scrobbling is when Last.fm tracks the music you listen to and automatically adds it to your music profile. I interpret it as the personal struggle Roger was feeling with the pressure of being an elite rock musician versus the responsibility of being a husband and father. The vocals, and emotion of Roger's vocals combined with the clarinet, and keyboards really strike a chord-a great song! In an interview with a Danish tv network, Roger cited the need to be a regular father as the reason he decided to leave the band in 1983.

The man does not want to go home to his wife or his life, so he drives around a little while longer every night and takes the long way home. You hit the nail right on the head. If you have been in a relationship like this, you know what it's like. He is on his way to divorce and trapped in a marriage that is going down the toilet fast.
